Medigap or Medicare Advantage?
Let's figure out what fits.

Medigap and Medicare Advantage work very differently, and the right choice depends on your doctors and your prescriptions. I have helped Medicare beneficiaries across St. George, Washington, Hurricane, Ivins, Santa Clara, Cedar City, and Southern Utah compare both options honestly so you can choose with confidence.

Two very different ways to cover what Medicare does not.

Medigap and Medicare Supplement are two names for the exact same type of plan. Here is how they compare to Medicare Advantage.

๐Ÿฅ

Medicare Advantage

  • Low or no monthly premium. In Southern Utah, the majority of Medicare Advantage plans are available at zero or very low cost
  • Often includes dental, vision, hearing, OTC, fitness, and sometimes grocery benefits
  • Uses a network like an HMO or PPO
  • May have copays as you use care
  • Usually includes prescription drug coverage built in
  • Part B giveback available on some plans
๐Ÿ“‹

Medigap (Medicare Supplement)

  • Higher monthly premium
  • Helps cover Medicare deductibles and coinsurance
  • Does not include dental, vision, OTC, grocery, or drug coverage
  • You will usually need a separate Part D plan alongside it
โ„น๏ธ There is no single right choice between Medigap and Medicare Advantage. It depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, your budget, and how much flexibility matters to you. That is exactly the kind of thing worth talking through.

Things people usually want to know.

Medigap is another name for Medicare Supplement insurance. It works alongside Original Medicare and helps pay the deductibles and coinsurance that Original Medicare does not cover, while letting you see any doctor who accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare through a private plan with its own network. Understanding which one fits your situation is exactly why meeting with a licensed Medicare agent matters. Many people are either spending more than they need to or missing out on benefits they qualify for.
It depends on your individual situation. A side by side comparison based on your specific doctors, prescriptions, and budget is the only way to know which fits you. I do that comparison at no cost to you. Without that review, most people end up either overpaying or leaving benefits on the table they did not know existed.
Yes. Medicare Advantage does cover hospital stays and surgeries. One of the most common misconceptions is that it does not. What Medicare Advantage may have is a copay for hospital admissions, which is where a Hospital Indemnity plan can help by covering those out of pocket costs when you do have a stay. Understanding exactly what your plan covers before you need it is one of the most important reasons to sit down with a licensed Medicare agent. Many people find out too late that they were either spending more than necessary or missing coverage they could have had.
Yes. Medigap plans do not include prescription drug coverage, so you will typically need a separate standalone Part D plan alongside your Medigap policy.
